5 Essential Oils To Reduce Stress & Anxiety

A whopping 75% of Australian’s surveyed admitted that stresses in their lives adversely effected their physical health and while it’s not so easy to not get stressed out or feel anxious there are ways to minimize the way stress affects us, one of those ways being essential oils. Herbs and plants have been used for thousands of years and modern society has lost some of the wisdom of past generations and the ability to address illness with these natural solutions. Here are 5 essential oils that may help alleviate stress and anxiety level.

Lavender

Lavare (means to wash) aka Lavender has many uses such as helping to eliminate nervous tension, relieve pain, disinfect the scalp and skin, enhance blood circulation, and treat respiratory problems. Recent years, studies even found using lavender oil may help reduce anxiety in people undergoing heart surgery!

By sprinkling a little lavender oil on your pillow at night is said to help you fall asleep and have a sound nights’ rest. By adding a little to your face cream is said to aid in healing your acne. Lavender inhibits the bacteria that cause the initial infection, helps to regulate over-excretion of sebum by hormonal manipulation and may reduce scarring after the acne has begun to heal.

Rose

According to research rose oil may reduce anxiety by 71% in labor for women and may have a soothing effect on both mum and bub. Rose oil is also said to boosts self-esteem, confidence, and mental strength while efficiently fighting depression and anxiety. Rose oil is also good at fighting viruses, treating wounds, reducing inflammation and may purify your blood by aiding the removal and neutralization of toxins. Once blood is purified and free of toxins, you maybe protected from boils, rashes, ulcers, and skin diseases, as well as serious conditions that free radicals can cause, like heart diseases and even cancer.

Chamomile

Popular for its’ calming tea (more than 1 million cups consumed per day)that often aids in sleeping chamomile is also an essential oil that may also have an antidepressant effect. It has been used as a mild sedative due to its’ ability to promote relaxation, calm nerves and reduce anxiety. By inhaling Roman chamomile the fragrance is carried directly to the brain and serves as an emotional trigger. Research shows that Roman chamomile has been used for relief of depressive and anxiety symptoms all over the world, including a number of regions in southern Italy, Sardinia, Morocco and Brazil.

Bergamot

The more stressed out you are the more bergamot will work for you. Bergamot may improve mood while simultaneously fighting anxiety. Also, commonly known to help improve blood circulation, prevent infection, reduce pain as it stimulates the secretion of certain hormones which lessen the sensitivity of nerves to pain. Therefore, it is very helpful in case of headaches, sprains, muscle aches or any other symptoms/ailments which require a heavy dosage of analgesic pills.

Lemon

A Japanese study found Lemon essential oil may decrease stress and lower heart rate in as little as 10 minutes! Lemon oil blends well with many other essential oils including lavender oil & rose oil making it a popular oil for herbalists and those who practice the healing art of aromatherapy. Lemon oil is stimulating while it is calming. It has anti-infection, astringent, detoxifying, antiseptic, disinfectant, and antifungal properties.  Lemon oil works in many areas of your life, from household cleaning to supporting brain energy and freshening the air.  As an extra bonus, lemon oil adds flavor to your water or your favorite foods, all while helping you get rid of bacteria!
